2025 BBH Pride HS Senior Scholarship

Through the generous contribution of friends of BBH Pride, Mike Sievers and Sandy Scafidi, the scholarships will support students and adults in pursuing their educational goals while promoting awareness, inclusivity, and allyship.

Scholarship Criteria

  • The applicant must be a first-time applicant for a BBH Pride Scholarship.
  • The applicant must be a resident of Brecksville or Broadview Heights, Ohio.
  • The applicant is an ally* or member of the LGBTQ+ community (see ally definition).
  • The applicant will be pursuing a career AND/OR volunteer activism in the human rights space with an emphasis on the LGBTQ+ community.
  • The applicant is at or below the age of 19 and is a graduating senior in high school.
  • The applicant will be enrolled in an educational institution that offers 2 or 4-year degrees or a vocational or trade certification.
  • The applicant must have demonstrated interest, activism, assistance to the LGBTQ+ community for a minimum of one year. This might look like, but is not limited to: membership with or affiliation to GSA or Pride organization, volunteerism with the Trevor Project or other LGBTQ+ service organization, educating others on key LGBTQ+ topics, participating in events with LGBTQ+ clubs or groups, etc.

Scholarship Timeline

  • Applicants must submit the scholarship application and essays by March 31.
  • The selected scholarship recipient will be notified via email/phone on/by April 25.
  • The selected scholarship recipient can choose how to receive their award (options included in the online application)
  • The scholarship recipient will receive their scholarship check award upon proof of enrollment. An unofficial college transcript, registrar note or school schedule can be submitted to the BBH Pride Scholarship Committee.
  • A member of the BBH Scholarship Committee will meet virtually with the recipient in November for a friendly check-in. We care about our recipients and want to help them succeed by offering support and encouragement!

Essay Prompts

Please compose and share two essays (word count 200-400 each) using the proposed prompts below:

  • Write about the importance of educating oneself and others about LGBTQ+ issues. How can knowledge and awareness contribute to more effective allyship and reduce stigma and discrimination?
  • Reflect on what it means to you to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Discuss a time when you witnessed discrimination, intolerance, micro aggression, bias or harassment against someone in the LGBTQ+ community. How did you respond, and what did you learn about the importance of standing up as an ally? If you were unable to respond to that experience, please share how you might have responded or how you will respond in the future.
